This is my favorite portrait I've ever done, as I've always wanted to do something of a stylized color portrait, but there's so little precedence on that sort of work that clients don't usually want to delve into it. My client on this piece wanted a cartoony portrait of her father to commemorate his life and his humor. I decided to keep the cartoony aspect of it pretty muted, so it comes of as a pretty whimsical caricature. She wanted the tattoo in color, so I got the opportunity to explore the richness of the skin tones in a painterly fashion. I hope I get to do more work like this in the future.
