The reference for this piece was a Vargas painting. We changed the rose she was originally holding into a bird, and put a peony in her hair. The background peonies were added to fill out the area and complete the composition. I'm really happy we got to keep the figure topless, I think it was a very mature decision on the part of the client. Way too many people get hung up over things like that, I think it's silly, honestly.
